Future MJGUEST Layout

Postby mdsjack on 16 Oct 2006 19:30

My intention is to abandon the Popup layout (which is a distinctive sign since version 1.0df), because it's outdated.

In (near) future, users will choose among:
- Embedded layout via php (just like now)
- Standalone layout

The Standalone layout should look like a Blog, so the guestbook will open up in a new page or in a new browser "tab", which will be fully supported in Firefox2 and Explorer7 as default choice instead of opening external links in a new browser window.

So if you have any ideas of nice "web 2.0"-style layouts you have seen on the internet and you like, which may fit a guestbook, or you know free templates websites, please post links or ideas.

----

As soon as they pay me, I will re-invest all the money from AdSense (google advertisements), to renew the "sponsored" linking on Hotscripts, which brought a lot of visitors in August, but has already expired.

This will bring more visitors for the launch of mjguest v6.5.

Great idea.

I'll have a look at some Blog-like layouts... let's see what we find ;)

For which version do you want to include this?

And... visitors are always great! :D

It will require a lot of work with css. xhtml instead will remain the same.

I don't think this feature will be available in time for 6.5, but it could be the main improvement of 6.6, which is planned for the beginning of 2007, when Explorer7 and hopefully Firefox2 will be already available, so I can do some compatibility tests.

By the way, beta of 6.5 will come soon. matter of few weeks.

ps: fly, this is new stuff to translate, would you mind?

I have to check the sense of those sentences when i can test the beta version or so. I also don't know if I can just use ü, ä, ö or if i have to use ü, ä and ö! In the user guide i have to use those html forms. SO maybe you can try which forms should be used.

For the BETA i'll also try to get the user guide translation ready.

Firefox 2 RC 2 is out. So it won't take a long time to version 2 i think. I've even installed RC2 and it works great! :)

I will do some testing on the current layout when the new browsers will come out in a stable package. (let's hope before the release of 6.5)

In translation you can always use "plain" characters.
As for the meaning, you'll figure out very easily with beta in your hands.

I've only just got the pop up to work... <grin> after all this time
And I like it....

I would like to also see maybe from the admin menu what version I am running, then it's easy to know if I need to update or not.

Keep up the good work Jack...

I think the popup is a good solution for a non-invasive guestbook, but it seems like this technique is almost deprecated.

A blog-like layout/style is the current trend so I have to keep up-to-date.

I'll come up with something for the upgrades as well.
